Transformation ( (へん) ずる Henzuru?) is the one hundred and seventy first chapter of Koyoharu Gotoge's Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Summary[]

After being fed the lock of Kokushibo's hair, Genya begins to breathe heavily and convulse as Muichiro calls out to him in worry. His arm reattaches as an eerie voice rings in his head; Genya questions who the voice belongs to as he sees that his torso has already reconnected itself, and he continues to heal at a rapid rate. Noting that all this came from eating just a lock of hair, he wonders just how concentrated Upper Rank One's blood truly is.

As his circulation accelerates, he sees there is also the broken piece of the demon's katana, but the voice rings inside him again, asking Kokushibo how many Hashiras he has killed and warning him not to let them near yet. Realizing he is hearing Muzan's voice, he begins to wonder what will happen to him next if his advancement as a demon continues.

Kokushibo faces Gyomei and Sanemi simultaneously

The Wind and Stone Hashira continue to attack Upper Rank One.

As he continues to fight the Stone and Wind Hashira, Kokushibo surmises that even amongst their peers, Gyomei and Sanemi are likely the strongest fighters. He places emphasis on Gyomei, a Demon Slayer of unparalleled physicality, irrespective of his blindness. Furthermore, his weapon is particularly well-crafted; by causing vibrations in the chain, Gyomei is able to accurately read his surroundings. Deciding he will destroy Sanemi's katana first, Kokushibo determines he can strike it on its side to shatter it easily.

Sanemi intercepts the slash and drives Kokushibo's katana into the floor. Seeing that his reflexes are still building up, Kokushibo lunges back to avoid a slash that cuts off some of his hair. Despite his mark empowering him, the demon still believes the Wind Hashira shouldn't be able to fight with all his wounds, yet his movements are only accelerating and becoming more precise. Gyomei suddenly appears in front of him and slashes his axe upwards, cutting off Kokushibo's ear. Sanemi follows through by using Wind Breathing, First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter, cutting between them to separate Kokushibo. Together, Sanemi and Gyomei use Wind Breathing, Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts and Stone Breathing, First Form: Serpentinite Bipolar, ripping off Kokushibo's kimono.

Gyomei and Sanemi fighting Kokushibo CH171

Gyomei and Sanemi are injured by Kokushibo.

As they leap away and land, they immediately rush in for another attack, attempting to go for his head. However, Kokushibo merely stands and encourages them to attack. Sanemi and Gyomei are suddenly covered in numerous slashes before they can get close; Gyomei questions how he managed to attack at range and watches as Kokushibo reveals his katana, now greatly extended and sporting three new cutting edges along its main blade. The demon claims they merely shredded his kimono, "not even enough to kill an infant", and he remarks that after killing the two, everyone will be dispatched with ease.
