I Am ( (わたし) Watashi wa?) is the one hundred and ninety sixth chapter of Koyoharu Gotoge's Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Summary[]

Nezuko's anger at Muzan for killing her family

Nezuko remembers Muzan killing her family in a failed experiment.

As she slowly walks towards the city, Nezuko's breathing becomes erratic as her mind flashes back to memories of her family, crying as she reminisces about their last moments. On her last day as a human, Muzan unexpectedly entered their home in the night and attacked, injecting all of her family members with his blood in an attempt to transform them, including herself. When they succumbed to their wounds, Muzan grew disappointed by their failure to become demons and lamented his inability to create a sunlight-immune demon.

Nezuko grows enraged, remembering his callous attitude, and she sadly remembers seeing Tanjiro crying when he saw them the next day. Her mind floods with memories of Giyu, Sakonji Urokodaki, Tamayo, Yushiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. She collapses to the ground and remembers Kagaya Ubuyashiki, Sanemi taunting her with his blood, the Hashira meeting, the girls of the Butterfly Mansion excited to meet her, Shinobu allowing her to see her pet goldfish, and Kyojuro.

She looks at her hands and remembers Tengen Uzui and his wives in Yoshiwara when she saved him, the smiths of the Swordsmith Village, Genya smiling at her, Mitsuri excited to see her, and Muichiro with his Kasugai crow. As she slowly gets up, Nezuko imagines Tanjiro standing before her, reaching out with his hand. As she transforms further and puts her now human hands to her face, she imagines taking his hand and remembers his words. "No matter what, your big brother is going to save you!"

Nezuko finally regains her humanity

Nezuko regains her humanity.

Nezuko, now human once again, cries out, "I am Nezuko Kamado. A demon killed my family."

As Muzan continues to battle Obanai and Tanjiro, the latter hoping to buy them one second at a time, Muzan begins to sense life around them and realizes that the Hashira are still alive, berating himself for not killing them. Despite their mortal wounds, they did not die, and Yushiro is treating them so that they can fight even if it kills them. Initially blaming Tanjiro for his predicament, he comes to realize that it is not solely his fault. The Demon Slayer Corps members are akin to a rosary's beads, and the organization is a dragon that seeks to coil around him.

Muzan's inability to split

Muzan finds he is unable to split himself.

As a Kasugai crow announces that 35 minutes now remain until dawn, the panting Muzan decides that the battle is finished and he no longer needs to continue. The demon suddenly stops moving; Tanjiro, realizing that Muzan has new intentions, watches as his left arm begins to swell obscenely. He calls out to Obanai and explains that Muzan is attempting to split himself, surprising the Hashira. Tanjiro panics as he is unsure if the two of them can stop Muzan.

Tamayo's spirit reveals the Anti-Kibutsuji Drug had four parts

Tamayo's spirit tells Muzan that the poisons has four parts.

Knowing that they have lost if he splits apart, he wonders if slashing all 12 of his weak points will be enough. However, just as quickly, Muzan's arm begins to shrink to normal, shocking him and Tanjiro. As he observes himself, Muzan surmises that there was a third component to Tamayo's drug, division prevention, apart from the human regression and aging stages. However, Tamayo's spirit confronts him and slyly tells him that he is mistaken. Muzan suddenly begins to cough blood, to Tanjiro's surprise.

Tamayo reveals that the drug had four parts, and once the first three have weakened him, the last stage will begin to destroy his cells. Muzan is haunted by his former slave, who proudly taunts him with the death he so feared now being close by.
