Appearance[]
Chuntaro is a small sparrow with mostly white and brown plumage, in addition to a few black feathers on his face, he has brown eyes.
Personality[]
Chuntaro remains with Zenitsu.
Chuntaro is a very intelligent sparrow, as well as brave and loyal, as he is often seen trying to motivate Zenitsu to keep going when he feels down, or staying by his side in high-risk situations, such as when he entered and stayed with him on Mount Natagumo, despite all the discomfort that Zenitsu constantly causes him.
Chuntaro has also been shown to be very sentimental, such as when he was seen happy after Tanjiro understood him and agreed to help him the first time they met, or when, after the battle with the Spider Demon, Chuntaro stood next to Zenitsu with tearful eyes.
History[]
Chuntaro passed the Kasugai Crow Test after his family was killed by demons.[1] He would later be assigned as Zenitsu Agatsuma's crow after he passed the Final Selection to become Demon Slayer.
Synopsis[]
Final Selection Arc[]
Chuntaro is assigned as the Kasugai Crow of Zenitsu Agatsuma after passing the Final Selection, leaving the latter quite confused as he is the only one who received a sparrow instead of a crow. After this, Chuntaro is seen standing on Zenitsu's shoulder, looking around while Kiriya Ubuyashiki and Kanata Ubuyashiki explain the final steps to the new Demon Slayers.
Tsuzumi Mansion Arc[]

Chuntaro asks Tanjiro Kamado for help in separating Zenitsu from a girl he was bothering, asking her to marry him. The girl ends up leaving and while Tanjiro tries to calm Zenitsu down, Chuntaro is seen talking to Matsuemon Tennoji, Tanjiro's Kasugai Crow. Later, Chuntaro is seen in Tanjiro's hands, who, through him, manages to communicate to Zenitsu the discomfort he causes him, as Zenitsu doesn't understand him. After this, everyone is sent to the Tsuzumi Mansion. Upon arriving, near the entrance, they find two very scared children, whom Tanjiro manages to calm down with Chuntaro's help.
After completing the mission, as they go to rest at a wisteria family crest, Chuntaro is seen entering with Zenitsu.
Mount Natagumo Arc[]
Chuntaro tries to convince Zenitsu to go help Tanjiro and Inosuke Hashibira on the mission to Mount Natagumo after he didn't want to enter due to his great fear, at first he doesn't succeed but after a short discussion Zenitsu thinks that Nezuko Kamado could be in danger so they both immediately enter the mountain.
Once inside the mountain, they encounter a Spider Demon, Zenitsu is poisoned and Chuntaro hides inside his Haori. After Zenitsu defeats the demon, leaving him seriously injured, Chuntaro looks very sad and worried about him and flies away to look for help. He finds Shinobu Kocho, whom he guides to Zenitsu and the rest of the poisoned hunters.[2]
When the mission ends and Zenitsu and everyone else around are cured of the poison thanks to Shinobu, Chuntaro is seen standing on the head of a newly awakened Zenitsu covered in bandages.
Rehabilitation Training Arc[]
Chuntaro is seen resting on Zenitsu's head when he is almost fully recovered.
At one point, Zenitsu stops training, so Chuntaro approaches him to motivate him to try harder, they seem to understand each other much better.
Hashira Training Arc[]
During the Stone Hashira training, Chuntaro appears to deliver a letter to Zenitsu, which stated that Jigoro Kuwajima had committed suicide after learning that Kaigaku, his other disciple and Zenitsu's former partner, had decided to become a demon.
Abilities[]
Chuntaro is a normal sparrow, despite not being able to speak like the rest of the Kasugai Crows, he is quite intelligent and manages to make himself understood through chirps, pecks, gestures, etc. In addition to being smaller and less noisy, it can be assumed that he is good at going unnoticed by the demons.
Relationships[]
Zenitsu Agatsuma[]
At first, Zenitsu was very annoying to Chuntaro, mainly because he bothered every girl he met, he didn't want to go on the missions he was assigned and he snored too much, and he also couldn't understand him, so Zenitsu didn't know what he was thinking and wasn't aware that he was causing him trouble in the first place.
Zenitsu understands Chuntaro.
However, as time goes by and the missions go on, Chuntaro grows to appreciate him more when he sees that, despite everything, he is not a bad person and genuinely cares about his companions.
When Zenitsu does not want to do something he should, he encourages him to continue, even during the Rehabilitation Training, it is seen that Zenitsu already understands practically everything Chuntaro is telling him.[3]
Tanjiro Kamado[]
Chuntaro liked Tanjiro from the first time they spoke, given that, unlike Zenitsu, Tanjiro understood what he meant, in addition to, realized what a good person he was. Thanks to Tanjiro, Chuntaro was able to express to Zenitsu all his complaints about him.
Between the two of them, they managed to calm the two brothers that were down outside the Tsuzumi Mansion.
Kasugai Crow[]
Despite being a sparrow instead of a crow and not being able to speak like the others, another crow has never been seen discrediting him. The only time he's ever seen talking to one was with Tanjiro's crow kasugai, with whom they seem to get along well.[4] It can be assumed that despite being a sparrow, the rest of the crows treat him as an equal.
Trivia[]
- His real name is Ukogi because his favorite food is Ukogi rice. But since he can't speak, Zenitsu, at least at first, didn't know this and nicknamed him Chuntaro.[5]
