The Flower of Happiness (しあわせの (はな) Shiawase no Hana?) is the first chapter of the first light novel spinoff Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Flower of Happiness.

Plot Summary[]

Ten days following the events of the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc, the group is seen staying at the Wisteria House belonging to Hisa. While in her care, the group is informed of a wedding which is going to occur, and are invited to give their blessing. Following the wedding, the group overhears two girls speaking of the "Flower of Happiness", which is said to bestow happiness to whoever finds it. Tanjiro becomes intrigued with the rumor, and sets out to find the flower for Nezuko's sake.

Synopsis[]

Tanjiro imagines Nezuko wearing a dignified and beautiful black furisode, which would complement her white skin. He envisions her reaction to seeing the luxurious gold-laced obi, predicting that she would likely think it's too extravagant due to her having worked hard for most of her life and wonders if she would shed tears of joy upon receiving such a gift, highlighting her gentle nature and the warmth she retains even after becoming a demon. He expresses his desire for her happiness above all else, despite the challenges they may face.

Together with Zenitsu and Inosuke, he is staying at Hisa's house. Hisa informs them about a wedding in the nearby village and invites them to offer their congratulations. They agree to attend the wedding. However, Inosuke's lack of social graces and Zenitsu's exaggerated flattery cause some tension during their stay. Despite this, they all appreciate Hisa's hospitality and care. As they banter and joke around, Tanjiro reflects on the growing bond between them, especially in their acceptance of his demon sister.

As they journey back from the wedding, they encounter two young sisters arguing about a mythical flower called Onitoukuzu, rumored to bring blessings to those who find it. Despite the fantastical nature of the flower, Tanjiro is intrigued. His thoughts turn to Nezuko and he contemplates her future. Sensing something amiss, Zenitsu questions Tanjiro, prompting him to confront his feelings about Nezuko's potential marriage. As Tanjiro seeks clarity, he is drawn to the idea of Nezuko living a happy and blessed life, but he also grapples with conflicting emotions.

Later that night, Zenitsu is awakened by Nezuko, who is searching for Tanjiro. They discover that he is missing, and Zenitsu realizes that he may have gone in search of the Onitoukuzu. Meanwhile, Tanjiro indeed ventures into the mountains in search of the Onitoukuzu, accompanied by a wild boar that resembles Inosuke. He eventually finds the mythical flower near a cave and is about to touch it when Nezuko arrives, having followed his scent. Together, they approach the flower, filled with hope and wonder about the blessings it may bring.

Tanjirou reflects on his guilt for not being able to provide a better life for Nezuko and his determination to make her happy. He recalls a memory of Nezuko comforting him and realizes that she, too, wants his happiness. Despite his efforts to bring her happiness, Tanjiro acknowledges that Nezuko's happiness is ultimately her own choice. Tanjiro is resolved to defeat the demon king and turn Nezuko back into a human. Despite his injuries and fears, Tanjiro is determined to become stronger.
