Hashira is the highest rank which Demon Slayers can obtain in the Demon Slayer Corps. Those who hold the position are regarded as the most powerful and skilled combatants in the entire organization, protecting humanity against more dangerous threats that cannot be handled by other Demon Slayers.
The group is overseen by their leader, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and are regarded as the most potent swordsmen among the Demon Slayers, since their existence literally sustains the entire organization. Those who are of lower rank may be killed at a frightening rate, but each Pillar possesses a distinct Breath Style which is learned from a cultivator or developed through extreme training. The Pillars are all assigned a specific region that they are required to patrol, usually to gather information about the Demons inhabiting the said area and to improve their swordsmanship. Swordsmen who can use the Breath of Flames and Breath of Water have become Pillars in every era, with no exceptions thus far.

To be a member of the Hashira, a Demon Slayer must be among the strongest combatants in the entirety of the Demon Slayer Corps. There are two known methods (both extremely difficult) that allow one to prove that they are worthy of becoming a Hashira: the first method is to accumulate a demon kill count of at least 50 as a Kinoe-ranked Demon Slayer, or slay a member of the Twelve Kizuki. The second method is being a Tsuguko of a Hashira, which requires immense talent. Additionally, Tsuguko can only inherit the rank, if their respective Hashira dies or retires.
There are two known methods to become a Pillar. A record of 50 Demon kills is required, but the slaying of one of the Twelve Demon Moons also fulfills the requirement. This type of effort requires almost five years worth of training, though the talented might take only two or so years to do so.

Pillars are constantly looking for a to take their place when they die or retire. A Demon Slayer can become a Tsuguko either by applying and getting accepted, or by being scouted personally by the Pillars themselves. ===Arm Wrestling===
After Muzan Kibutsuji breaks into the Ubuyashiki Manor, he is attacked by Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Pillar, in an attempt to slay him, but Muzan escapes into the Dimensional Infinity Fortress with several other Demon Slayers chasing after them, only for them to be separated by Nakime, the new Upper Moon Four.

Several duels break out in the Infinity Fortress between Demons and Demon Slayers. The Pillars and the other Demon Slayers face off against many Demons who all have equal strength to that of a Lower Moon. Shinobu Kocho attempted to kill the Upper Moon Two Doma, who was responsible for the death of her older sister. However, she is killed and absorbed by Doma. Shinobu's younger sister, Kanao, and Inosuke then fight Doma immediately after and were able to defeat the Demon thanks to the poison inside Shinobu's body. Zenitsu runs into the new Upper Moon Six, the other former apprentice of his master, Kaigaku, and engages him in a duel to the death, in which Kaigaku has an overwhelming advantage and nearly kills Zenitsu, but Zenitsu manages to behead Kaigaku with a secret technique he created. Elsewhere, Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka are ambushed by the Upper Moon Three, Akaza. After a long battle, Tanjiro beheads Akaza, although the Demon manages to survive this attack, and eventually the battle is won by the Upper Moon committing suicide. The two Demon Slayers come out victorious, while Muichiro Tokito, Gyomei and Sanemi Shinazugawa run into Kokushibo, Upper Moon One.

The Hashira ( (はしら) Hashira?, lit. Pillars) are the highest-ranking Demon Slayers in the Demon Slayer Corps.

Overview

Hashira is the highest rank which Demon Slayers can obtain in the Demon Slayer Corps. Those who hold the position are regarded as the most powerful and skilled combatants in the entire organization, protecting humanity against more dangerous threats that cannot be handled by other Demon Slayers.

The Hashira, in accordance with their great strength, hold the highest authority in the organization, second only to the Corps leader, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and later, Kiriya Ubuyashiki.[1]

The Hashira are all assigned a specific region that they are required to patrol, usually to gather information about the demons inhabiting said area and to improve their swordsmanship. They are also deployed on missions only if lower-ranking members are unable to complete it.

Each Hashira are masters of a unique Breathing Style, some of which are even created by themselves. Interestingly, swordsmen who can use the Flame Breathing and Water Breathing have become Hashira in every era, with no exceptions thus far.[2]

Joining

To be a member of the Hashira, a Demon Slayer must be among the strongest combatants in the entirety of the Demon Slayer Corps. There are two known methods (both extremely difficult) that allow one to prove that they are worthy of becoming a Hashira: the first method is to accumulate a demon kill count of at least 50 as a Kinoe-ranked Demon Slayer, or slay a member of the Twelve Kizuki.[3][4] The second method is being a Tsuguko of a Hashira, which requires immense talent. Additionally, Tsuguko can only inherit the rank, if their respective Hashira dies or retires.

The effort required to achieve either of these methods requires almost five years worth of training, though, the talented might take only two or so years to do so.[3] However, there were one example that was much faster than that; Muichiro Tokito, who managed to rise to the rank of Hashira just two months after joining the Demon Slayer Corps.

Finding Successors

Main article: Tsuguko

In some cases, an exceptionally talented Demon Slayer can become the designated successor to one of the Hashira, known as a Tsuguko. To become a Tsuguko, a Demon Slayer can either apply for the position and get accepted, or get scouted by one of the current Hashira .[3]

Hashira Training

Main article: Hashira Training

In preparation for the upcoming confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji, Kagaya Ubuyashiki ordered that the Hashira conduct special training sessions with lower ranked Demon Slayers. with the aim to improve all the Demon Slayers' physical abilities, overall health, and condition. The Hashira also trained among each other to improve their individual strength and their cooperative attack coordination.
