Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki

After we beat this demon, let's retire from the corps... and just live like normal people. We were raised as shinobi, so the lives that were stolen from us will not return. If we don't set things right... the shame of our failiure will haunt us forever. Even if all four of us aren't together... let us have no regrets.

Hinatsuru to Tengen Uzui, Makio, and Suma in Grateful

Hinatsuru ( (ひな) (つる) Hinatsuru?) is a supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a kunoichi and one of Tengen Uzui's wives.

Appearance[]

Hinatsuru is a young woman of average height with a curvaceous yet slender figure, pale skin, and long black hair typically styled in a ponytail. Her large, almond-shaped violet eyes are framed by thin eyelashes and eyebrows, and a distinctive beauty mark under her left eye adds to her gentle and kind appearance.

Hinatsuru wears a short, sleeveless lavender dress with an irregular square pattern of a darker color, which has a plunging neckline that exposes her cleavage, and secured tight with a red-violet colored obi where she presumably stores her kunai. She wears brown fishnet socks that reach up to her mid-thigh along with light colored sandals with purple straps.

In a flashback, she's also seen wearing long, fingerless fishnet gloves.

When retired, Hinatsuru wears a more modest version of her usual attire, consisting of a lavender kimono with an irregular square pattern of darker hues and lifted sleeves, paired with a white yuban underneath that has an open window revealing her mid-chest. The outfit includes white straps tied and laced in an X pattern around her shoulders and back, extending down to her ankles for added coverage. A fuchsia obi is tied around her waist, secured with a lighter purple-pink obijime in the middle. She retains her purple-strapped sandals.

Personality[]

Hinatsuru explaining that wanting to live isn't so bad

Hinatsuru's calm and gracious disposition.

Hinatsuru's personality is very similar to that of Tanjiro Kamado. Kind, calm, and nurturing, even when dealing with her co-wives' antics towards each other, much like the latter when dealing with Zenitsu and Inosuke's antics.

Due to her more understanding and calm personality, Hinatsuru often serves as Tengen's emotional bolster, in ways Makio and Suma cannot. Despite only being slightly older than the two, she displays far more maturity and often acts to mediate situations between them, as seen when Hinatsuru spoke with Makio about Tengen and how he lives his life differently to that of traditional shinobi, despite Makio's confusion.

Though generally quiet and kind, Hinatsuru became angry with Suma and Makio fighting as Tengen lay dying of Gyutaro's poison. She also expressed annoyance when Obanai demeaned Tengen for his efforts just to kill the weakest of the Upper Ranks.

Like her co-wives, Hinatsuru has a soft spot for Tanjiro, due to his monumental aid in the Entertainment District, offering him kind words during his training, and wishing the best for him in his battle against Muzan.

History[]

Makio and Hinatsuru talking

Hinatsuru talks with Makio about Tengen.

At some point of her life, Hinatsuru married Tengen Uzui, along with Suma and Makio. After she left the clan, her family journeyed to see Kagaya Ubuyashiki in order to fight as a part of the Demon Slayer Corps.[2]

At some point in the past, Hinatsuru was instructed alongside Makio and Suma by Tengen on his personal ideology: to put their own lives first, then respectable humans, and lastly himself. She accepted his will, but Makio questioned the approach as it went against what they had been taught as kunoichi. Hinatsuru reassured her, reminding her that it's what Tengen wanted for them and that it was okay to desire self-preservation.[3] Later, she would bring up her wish for the four of them to retreat from the front lines as soon as they defeated an Upper Rank.[4]

Synopsis[]

Entertainment District Arc[]

Daki's plan to kill Hinatsuru if anything goes amiss

Hinatsuru being threatened by Daki.

Suspecting that the Entertainment District was an ideal hiding location for demons, Hinatsuru infiltrated it as an oiran alongside her fellow wives.[5] Sent to the Kyogoku House,[6] she quickly realized that the lead oiran Warabihime was a Demon, but could not make a move, and thus drank poison in order to be sent out of the house. However, she was sent off with a sash that would quickly dispatch her if she attempted to do anything suspicious.[7]

Hinatsuru prepares to fire a barrage of Kunai at Gyutaro

Hinatsuru about to fire wisteria-laced kunais at Gyutaro.

Sent to the lowest class brothel in Yoshiwara, Kirimise, Hinatsuru was found by her husband Tengen and given an antidote to the poison she had taken. She told him to leave her and go after the demon, apologizing for not being more useful. He instructed her to leave as soon as the antidote took effect, and the two hugged.[8] When she recovered enough to move, she instead slowly made her way towards the fight.[9] Arriving at a critical point in the conflict, Hinatsuru fired a large amount of kunai at Gyutaro, who used a Blood Demon Art to block the attack. Despite this, one of her kunai managed to get through, creating an opportunity for Tengen and Tanjiro Kamado to strike.[10]

She desperately hoped that one of them would manage to decapitate the demon.[11] However, the Upper Rank managed to recover and turn his attention to her, but before any harm could come to her, Tanjiro saved her with a combined Water Breathing and Hinokami Kagura technique. She ripped Gyutaro's severed hand from her throat, but he was quickly upon them again, only to be attacked from behind by Tengen.[12] The sneak attack failed, Tanjiro launching the two of them back from the subsequent counterattack, and the sudden attack from Daki. The kunoichi told her savior not to worry about her, as she would hide herself, but to instead focus on winning.[13] Before she left, she slipped him one of her poisoned kunai.[14]

Suma, Makio, and Hinatsuru witness Tengen on fire

Hinatsuru sees Tengen on fire.

She was joined by her fellow wives, Makio and Suma, having witnessed the final moments of the battle. She noted with worry that something was wrong, that feeling becoming horrifying reality in a desperate final attack by Gyutaro.[15] She and the others desperately tried to save their husband, to no avail, Hinatsuru shedding a tear for him. He attempted to say his final words, but Suma and Makio were quarreling, causing Hinatsuru to admonish them. In the middle of all this, Nezuko Kamado arrived, using her Blood Demon Art to burn the poison from Tengen's body, to the wives' initial astonishment and horror, to subsequent joy.[16]

Hinatsuru, her fellow wives, and Tengen were then approached by Obanai Iguro, who both congratulated and insulted them on their victory. She pushed an overly emotional Suma off of their heavily injured husband.[17]

Swordsmith Village Arc[]

Tengen leaves Yoshiwara with his wives

When Kakushi arrived to survey the battle damage and begin clean up, Hinatsuru then left with her family, supporting her husband so he could walk.[18]

Hashira Training Arc[]

Hinatsuru assists her co-wives during Tengen's stage of Hashira Training, giving out food to the exhausted participants and listening to her husband explain the entirety of the Training Program. She greets Tanjiro when he appears to begin his training. Tanjiro thanks them for their help in Yoshiwara, but they claim they are the ones to be grateful. They hear and are amused by Tengen demanding the trainees eat more, threatening to make the next exercise harder should they leave any food, with Makio joining in on the threatening teasing.[19][20]

Later on, Tengen orders the trainees to run to a mountain and return or be denied dinner. As Tanjiro is stretching for the exercise, Tengen's wives approach him; Hinatsuru and Suma remark that despite his outward harsh exterior, Tengen is actually gentle on the inside. Having heard them talking about him, Tengen sarcastically tells them as much, to their bemusement.

Tanjiro reassures Hinatsuru, promising to defeat Muzan

Tanjiro promises Hinatsuru that he'll defeat Muzan.

After helping Tengen's wives with chores in the kitchen, Tanjiro is thanked with a cup of Gyokuro tea. Hinatsuru takes the chance to thank him for saving them in Yoshiwara, though Tanjiro denies doing it with his strength alone. She recalls that it was due to him, Nezuko, Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Tengen that they all survived, and it wouldn't have happened with one less person. She begins to cry as she remarks that Tengen still wants to fight leading Makio to comfort her. Hinatsuru states her wish for Tanjiro to defeat Muzan, and he promises to do so. When Tanjiro finishes training with Tengen, she bids him farewell.

Sunrise Countdown Arc[]

In the wake of the final battle and Muzan's death, Hinatusuru visits the Kamado siblings in the Butterfly Mansion alongside Tengen, Makio, and Suma. Later on, she poses for a group photo and later frolics in a field with her beloved husband and co-wives.

Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: Hinatsuru does not possess any form of superhuman abilities. However, as she was raised as a kunoichi, Hinatsuru possesses effective and refined shinobi skills, being capable of wielding a kunai as well as performing maneuvers and fighting much more proficiently than regular people can. Additionally, though not on the level of Demon Slayers, Hinatsuru's training has provided her with above average physical abilities, quickly recovering from a poison only hours after taking an antidote, enough that she could help in battle, and leaping away from Daki's incoming obi with impressive height and speed.[21]

Equipment[]

Large Crossbow: In the battle against Gyutaro, Hinatsuru uses a large crossbow to fire a barrage of kunai at the Upper Rank in an attempt to slow down his regeneration.

Standard Kunai: As a kunoichi, Hinatsuru carries around two standard black kunai for combat purposes.

Wisteria-Laced Kunai: Hinatsuru possesses a box which is filled with numerous kunai. Each kunai is laced with wisteria poison strong enough to paralyze normal demons half a day and even capable of immobilizing the Twelve Kizuki's Lower Rank demons.[11]
