Appearance[]
Suyako was a petite young woman with long black hair, which appeared to curve in or be tied together below her shoulders, with two ear-length strands handing down on either side of her face. She had wide, black to pale pink eyes (sapphire in the anime) and, appeared always to wear a large smile.[2]
Her attire consisted of a plain, pale purple-colored (pink in the anime) kimono and a piece of white cloth that she wore tied around the top of her head.
Personality[]
As seen by Tanjiro Kamado during his flashbacks, Suyako is a happy,[3] hardworking woman who was always doing the best she could for her children.[4] Upon seeing Yoriichi unexpectedly weeping as he hugged Sumire, her caring nature came forward and she told the swordsman she would feed him to cheer him up. Suyako's cheerful nature is also present when she would ask Yoriichi to perform his Sun Breathing forms, causing her to be delighted and fascinated by them.
History[]
Not much is known about Suyako, except that she married a man named Sumiyoshi Kamado and gave birth to a son and daughter.[5] She, along with Sumiyoshi, found Yoriichi Tsugikuni and Uta's house at Mount Kumotori long after the latter's death, and decided to move in there.
Synopsis[]
Swordsmith Village Arc[]
Suyako appears before Tanjiro during his fight with Hantengu, simply standing, a basket of vegetables in her hands, and smiling at him.[3]She remarked about his Nichirin katana's black blade, almost like obsidian, and how it became bright red, similar to the blade of Yoriichi.
Sunrise Countdown Arc[]
Suyako appears again within the memories Tanjiro witnesses as he lies unconscious after an attack by Muzan. She walks out of the forest, with her second child behind her, calling out to Sumiyoshi about the chestnuts she found and marvelling at their size. Her attention was quickly drawn to someone crouching down and hugging her child Sumire. She realizes it is Yoriichi but also notices him crying as he embraced the little girl. She gives him a comforting pat on the head and tells Yoriichi she will let him eat until he is full, asking him to cheer up.
While continuing to look back on his ancestor's memories, Tanjiro notes that she would continually ask Yoriichi to perform the Sun Breathing forms for her and her children. He did so, doing each of the twelve forms, to the delight of Suyako and intense focus of Sumiyoshi. Later on, when Yoriichi gave Sumiyoshi his earrings, realizing this was the last time he would ever see them, Suyako became saddened and worried for the swordsman. But as Sumiyoshi cried out his support for his friend and heard his promise to pass the form down to his descendants, they saw Yoriichi's face light up into a smile and he thanked them and waved them goodbye.
Abilities[]
As with her husband before he learned the Sun Breathing from Yoriichi, Suyako has shown no indication of any special abilities and appears only to be a normal human.

Trivia[]
- Suyako has a tendency to fall asleep all the time, which occasionally makes Sumiyoshi wonder if she's okay.[6]
- This habit eventually passed down when Nezuko turned into a demon, often sleeping for the majority of the day to recover her strength instead of eating humans.
- It is worth noting that Sumihiko Kamado, Tanjiro's great-grandson, seems to have inherited this condition as well.
- This habit eventually passed down when Nezuko turned into a demon, often sleeping for the majority of the day to recover her strength instead of eating humans.
- Her given name, Suyako, contains the Go-on'yomi reading of the kanji for "pearl, gem, jewel" (
珠 su?), and the Kun'yomi for "all the more, increasingly" (彌 ya?) and "child" (子 ko?).
