Appearance[]

Tomi was an old woman of short stature with long white hair worn in a bun down her back. She had dark purple eyes that fade into a violet color lower down, their irises white and vertically rectangular.

Tomi wore a brown kimono and a red haori, as well as large round glasses.

Personality[]

Tomi was seen to be a polite and kind woman, evident when she defended Kyojuro Rengoku after her granddaughter became suspicious of him when he had asked her about demons. She cares for her greatly and tried many times to reassure her when she was upset about the poor sales of her bentos at night.

Unlike most humans, she has known about the existence of demons for a long time, owing to her own life almost ending to an attack years ago, which was the reasoning for her cautioning Fuku not to stay out at night, in spite of the girl's skepticism. She also was shown to be very brave, attacking the Slasher when he tried to attack her granddaughter.

History[]

Twenty years before meeting Kyojuro Rengoku, Tomi and her young daughter were attacked by a demon. In the nick of time, they were saved by the Flame Hashira of then, Shinjuro Rengoku. Rescued and safe from the threat, she never forgot his appearance and ritualistic way of sheathing his Nichirin sword.

Synopsis[]

Mugen Train Arc[]

Fuku and her grandmother

Tomi and her granddaughter Fuku.

At the station, Tomi listens as her granddaughter Fuku laments to her about the poor sales of their bento boxes. Kyojuro Rengoku appears, and Fuku becomes wary of him, which Tomi tries to pacify. After he buys their bento boxes and leaves, the two close up the shop together.

Tomi and Fuku are attending the shop again the next day when they're approached by a demon, Slasher, who almost strangles Fuku. Kyojuro appears and is able to save her, defeating the demon, to which the two express their thanks by offering the Hashira a bento box.

Tomi reminisces about the time she herself was saved by a Flame Hashira, along with Fuku's mother, which Kyojuro recognizes as his father. Fuku apologizes to her grandmother about her disregard for demons but Kyojuro cheerfully responds that not believing in them may be for the better.

Before Kyojuro boards the Mugen Train for his investigation, Tomi and her granddaughter provided him with beef bentos as a token of appreciation for saving their lives, which he happily accepted and enjoyed.[1]

Abilities[]

As an ordinary human, she doesn't possess any additional powers or abilities.

Trivia[]
