Ubuyashiki Mansion (
Overview[]
The grand mansion served as the residence of the Taisho era's Oyakata, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, his wife Amane, and children, and it had been in the possession of the Ubuyashiki Family for generations.
It was located on the top of a mountain in a secluded and well-protected area to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors. Its precise location was kept secret to protect against demon attacks. Compared to the already obscure and hidden Swordsmith Village, even more complicated methods were used to hide the estate.[1]
The mansion's wooden veranda faced a gravelled garden.
The mansion was traditional in design, featuring elegant wooden architecture. A wooden veranda ran along the perimeter of the house, slightly elevated from the ground and served as a transitional space between the indoors and the garden. The mansion's surroundings were serene and peaceful. It had a beautifully well-maintained Zen garden, and the ground of this garden was primarily covered by white gravel. The garden featured wisteria trees, bonsai trees, stone lanterns and a pond with large Ishi stones around it. The entire plot of land was surrounded by an engawa.[2]
The head of the Ubuyashiki family lead the Demon Slayer Corps from this estate. The mansion served as the hub for strategic planning where key decisions were made and where the efforts against demons were coordinated. Important meetings and strategy sessions were held at the estate, particularly in the presence of the Hashira, the Corps' most powerful swordsmen. These gatherings were crucial for planning missions and discussing tactics for their next moves in combating the demon threat.
Synopsis[]
Rehabilitation Training Arc[]
After the battle on Mount Natagumo, Tanjiro Kamado is brought to the Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters at the Ubuyashiki Estate. Tanjiro wakes up to find himself in the garden, restrained by a Kakushi, and facing the Hashira. They put him on trial for the clear violation of being a Demon Slayer protecting a demon, namely his younger sister Nezuko Kamado. After a skirmish with one of the Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Master, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, arrives and reveals he has sanctioned Tanjiro and Nezuko's circumstances.[3]
Kagaya hosts a Hashira meeting at the estate.
Later that night, Kagaya, holds a meeting with the Hashira inside the estate to discuss the threat of demons. As they have reported, increasing damage caused by them will inevitably lead to human life under threat more than ever. Sanemi comments that the incident on Mount Natagumo has shown that the skill of Demon Slayers has plummeted greatly, deeming most of them useless.[2]
Hashira Training Arc[]
Amane hosts an emergency meeting at the estate.
After the battle in the Swordsmith Village, Amane Ubuyashiki hosts an emergency meeting with the Hashira in Kagaya's stead due to the latter's worsening health. She addresses the news that a demon immune to sunlight has been found and the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, will become more focused than ever to take this demon, Nezuko, and thus, an immense confrontation is upon them. She then requests Mitsuri Kanroji and Muichiro Tokito, to explain how to induce the mysterious marks that appeared on them during their battles.[4]
Later that night, the Hashira, with the exception of Giyu Tomioka, discuss their finished training plan for the Corps, with Sanemi adding that the dates and time are left to add. Gyomei believes they must begin in three days; time is against them and they do not know Muzan's plan for the future; thus, he wants them all ready. Obanai mentions that when demons begin to attack again, they won't be prepared. To this, Shinobu questions if they will attack during training; Gyomei explains that since the Swordsmith Village's attack, demon activity has decreased significantly.[4]
The Ubuyashiki Estate is destroyed in an explosion.
While Kagaya is awake with Amane by his side, Muzan appears in the garden of the estate. Kagaya, despite his bandages covering his eyes, calls out his visitor's name,[5] who insults him as looking loathsome and indescribably ugly. Kagaya then explains his bloodline to the demon and taunts him that all demons do not understand the eternity of human feelings. When Muzan is ready to kill him, a massive explosion destroys the mountainside, including the entire mansion, killing Kagaya, Amane, and his two daughters Nichika and Hinaki present in the explosion, as well as momentarily injuring Muzan, who immediately begins to regenerate.[6]
